Daily Devotional. Now the sons of Eli (Hophni and Phinehas), were sons of Belial; THEY KNEW NOT THE LORD. 1 Samuel 2:12. Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: YE MAKE THE LORD’S PEOPLE TO TRANSGRESS. 1 Samuel 2:24. Eli’s sons were about as wicked as they come. Their wickedness was so great that the people didn’t even want to go to church, yes, they wanted to worship the Lord, but the act of going to church was sickening. Eli wasn’t much better, he only told his sons they shouldn’t do what they were doing, he didn’t even try to stop them. This gets a little rough but it needs to be understood. Today’s “wolf” preachers have nothing on Hophni and Phinehas. In today’s terms, you, Dad, take you wife, son, and two daughters to church. You head for your Sunday School classroom and your girls head for theirs. Hophni and Phinehas would take them off to the side, and rape them. Not even trying to hide around the corner, but in plain sight. They would take women any time they wanted IN CHURCH. All Eli said was, you boys are bad. God killed the two boys. And you had to take your family to church, there was nowhere else to go. “I Love God, I hate going to church” has a whole new meaning. Eli died a fat men because he literally would send his servants out to take the filet, (you know, the really tasty cut of meat), out of the sacrifice, and eat it himself. The rule was, the Priest would take a 3 pronged hook to a pot or pan of cooked meat and what he came up with, was his. Eli would forcefully take the filet before it was cooked. Today, the sins in church may be different (???), but they are just as hated by the Lord. He still hates sin and He still removes sin from the church. The sin will die, whether or not you’re still connected to that sin, is up to you. Ananias and Sapphira, are two examples in the New Testament of God stopping sin in the church. They both dropped dead in their tracks for lying to the Holy Spirit. Kill the sin, Be Blessed.
