Daily Devotional. And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for THE LORD REVEALED HIMSELF to Samuel in Shiloh BY THE WORD OF THE LORD. 1 Samuel 3:21. A word study indicates that the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel by the written word, and possibly with a verbal communication. Either way, Samuel was hungry to Know the Lord and the Lord met his need. Samuel, as a Prophet, was headed for some tough times and needed to be properly prepared. If Eli wasn’t going to train him, the Lord Himself would. No one being trained by the Lord will be left behind or found lacking in the Lord. A Prophet had a hard life. Generally, his job was to warn people of coming judgment and get them to understand why judgment was coming, and what they could do to avoid judgment. Most of the time, when the people tired of the raving madman trying to ruin their day, they would just take him out back and kill him. So much for the glorious life of a Prophet. Today’s “prophets” get to live the good life, have plenty of money, (at least the TV ones do), and will tell you all kinds of good stuff. They’ll even plaster their name everywhere, “I’m prophet so and so”. No fear of death in their life. My, how times have changed. Samuel knew he could die at any time, just for being obedient to the Lord. To Live and Die in the Service of the Lord was always part of the job description. Go preach the Word, let them think about it for a half hour, then they’re going to kill you, would you take the job??? (Stephen did). Warn the people that to continue in their sin will kill them, and they kill you instead, want the job??? Christian means Christ-like. Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher, those are things you do under the covering of CHRISTLIKENESS. Are you of the “Samuel Army” willing to do ANYTHING the Lord asks of you, no matter what? Death means nothing, Christ means EVERYTHING? Samuel was one of many Prophets. Read about their Lives, and Deaths, and, Be Blessed.
