Daily Devotional. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, (Christ’s Gospel) thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, NOURISHED UP IN THE WORDS OF FAITH AND OF GOOD DOCTRINE, whereunto thou hast attained. BUT REFUSE PROFANE AND OLD WIVES ‘ FABLES, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. 1 Timothy 4:6-7. We can preach and teach anything we want to. We can preach the full Gospel of Christ, or every heresy we can come up with, or any combination thereof. If you want to keep the crowds coming and grow the numbers, preach everything THEY want to hear, and you’ll be the best people pleaser around. If you Preach Christ and Him Crucified, you’ll find the True Believers coming in to hear about Christ, and the goats will slowly head for the door because the Holy Spirit WILL bring Conviction on everyone. But if you preach a half gospel, half old wives fables, YOU’LL GET THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. The goats won’t get insulted, and the sheep will hang around looking for any scraps off the Masters Table they can find. Now you have a growing church where everyone stays. It’s a win win situation. The goats get fed and the sheep don’t starve. Well, almost win win. That will depend on if, or how long, the Lord hangs around. If He stays, you’ll have to answer to Him. But if He leaves, hey, you’re home free, you can preach anything you want with no problems. Well, at least not in this lifetime. Right Joel Osteen??? Joel can motivate you TOWARDS heaven and make you feel good on the way, even if you DO fall short. (Oh well, you gave it a good try, better luck next life). Only Christ can get you all the way INTO Heaven, and stay there for all Eternity. So, what are “old wives’ tales”? You’ll have to look elsewhere, you won’t find them in the Bible. But you CAN read about those who did preach old wives’ tales, (and it wasn’t pretty). Preach Christ, and, Be Blessed.
