Daily Devotional. And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments. For the Lord had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, YE ARE A STIFFNECKED PEOPLE : I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now PUT OFF THY ORNAMENTS FROM THEE , THAT I MAY KNOW WHAT TO DO UNTO THEE . And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb. Exodus 33:4-6. God is just about ready to pronounce sentence on this stiffnecked people, and stops. He’s going to think about it for a few minutes and tells them to throw down their idols long enough that He can think about it without them waving a big red idolatry flag in His face while He’s thinking about it. This is where Moses jumps in to intercede for the Jews. Today we read, “They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them” said Abraham. What
can we learn from all this? God is very long-suffering and patient. The Holy Spirit will tell us if we are falling into idolatry, but will we listen? But harder than that, are we already IN idolatry, AND DON’T EVEN KNOW IT? Or won’t admit it? Or don’t want to hear it? Will anyone speak up and tell us The Truth? Even worse, we know The Truth, and don’t want to do anything about it? You know, Comfort Zone? Or, we’ll lose friends, or members, if we tackle idolatry? (This comes under the heading, I fear losing people, friends, and members more than I fear losing God). If that’s the case, we’ve already lost people, and God won’t be far behind. He’s done playing. Time is getting short, we have all the information we need to get it right, NOW. Excuses are no longer an option. It’s time for us to GET SERIOUS, or get out. What will you do to, Be Blessed?
