Daily Devotional. He that BELIEVETH AND IS BAPTIZED shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:16. Thayer Definition: BAPTIZED; to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge (of vessels sunk) to cleanse by dipping or submerging, to wash, to make clean with water, to wash one’s self, bathe. TO OVERWHELM. To Believe unto Salvation is all that is actually required to be saved. Water Baptism is very good and is an outward expression of an inward cleansing. Note that if being water baptized were an absolute requirement, the thief on the Cross wouldn’t have made it. He did. Let’s look at “Overwhelm”, “To surge over and submerge; engulf”: Is it possible that to be baptized, as in Mark 16:16, can also imply that to meet Christ will be an overwhelming experience? Not to be forgotten? Keep in mind here the “Lord Lord” people that THINK they got saved They know the day, but nothing ever changed, nothing about Christ overwhelmed them, and their water baptism, IF they got water baptized, was just a good “show” dunking. Is it possible that getting saved and baptized is like looking closely through a knot hole in a fence and seeing a whole new world on the other side??? Would that not be overwhelming? Jesus meant everything He said and He never wasted time with cheap useless words. His Words all had meaning and purpose. If we can look at His Definitions and His Meanings for His Word, THE WORD, I believe we would all have a much greater understanding of the Things of Christ. Let’s get lost in His Words, and share Them with a lost world. By the way, is being washed by the Word another Baptism? Ponder, and Be blessed.
