Daily Devotional. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3. For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Exodus 34:14. This is a command, and an explanation, but first and foremost, a Command. We’ll use this in an example of idol worship. We need to first understand that the Lord will use anything He wants to to provide for you and your needs. He can use a secular source, among others, whenever He wants. The problem starts when we get our eyes off Him as our source, and into the source as the source. For example, you ask the Lord for a job He wants you to have so you can provide for your family and work. And He gives you a good job, for 10 years. So far, so good. Suddenly you get a lay-off notice saying next Friday is your last day at work. And the reason for the lay-off is really pretty pitiful. Do you, A, get angry and claim their reason for the lay-off is unjustified and you’re going to fight it? Or B, you say Thank You Lord, You know what you’re doing and I gladly submit to your Will? Are you looking to the Lord, or to the job, as your source? To the Lord is good, to the job, is idol worship. The Lord will only take First Place in your Life and Relationship with Him. He takes backseat to nobody. How many ways and how often can the Lord test you to see how you’ll deal with something in your Life. He already knows the answer, the test is for YOU to see the answer, to see what your Heart Attitude is about, some thing or things in your life. This is what this Life is all about. The Lord will dig out junk in your heart, show it to you, and then throw it out. This is a cleansing process drawing you towards CHRISTLIKENESS. YOU ARE BEING PURIFIED EVERY TIME THE LORD DEALS WITH SOMETHING IN YOUR HEART!!! Be Purified, and, Be Blessed.
