Daily Devotional- MORNINGTIME 3397

Daily Devotional. And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, WHAT SHALL I DO to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, Follow Me. And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! Luke 18: 18-24. The key words here are, “What shall I do”. The rich young ruler was wanting to know what HE could do on HIS terms to accomplish the end results that HE wanted. So Jesus answered him on his terms, like the man requested, and this one worldly “doing” thing was still too much for him to DO. This rich young ruler never came to the understanding that Christ, the Son of the Living God, was going to do all the “Work” and all he needed to do was “Follow Him” wherever He would lead. Even as a sheep is lead to the slaughter, sure enough Death won’t deter him from Following The Good Shepherd. This is where Christ can ultimately put you in a place of impending “doom”, and it won’t bother you because death is just a step closer to Christ. And ANY step, EVERY step towards Christ is ALWAYS a step for the Better. Faith, Love, and Obedience are the things Christ REQUIRES of you, and He will even give them to you if you will but ask for them. “Coming to Christ” IS to ask for these things, and the Proof that you have them is your Love for all of mankind. You will even Love the unlovely AND the unlovable. THAT’S Christ IN you, and that’s not a “thing” you can do, but a thing you can BE, to forever, Be Blessed.
