For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth. Isaiah 21:6 Strong’s Definition: A primitive root; properly to hedge about (as with thorns), that is, guard; generally to protect, attend to, etc.: – beware, be circumspect, take heed (to self), keep (-er, self), mark, look narrowly, observe, preserve, regard, reserve, save (self), sure, (that lay) wait (for), watch (-man). The watchman had a serious job to do. He was to be on the top of the wall that surrounded the city and keep a watch for anything that looked suspicious, or seemed like it had ill intent, especially at night. If He fell asleep on the job, he was in big trouble, or, dead. He was not the Amy to protect the city, but to call out when danger came. Whether a vast army boldly coming over the hill, or a sneaky guerrilla group slinking through the weeds. Either way, the Watchman was very important. This biblical example begs the question, do we need Watchmen today in the church, watching for unbiblical lies, error, and deception trying to get into church, or worse yet, calling out deception already IN the church.?!? Does your church have anyone who has the ear of the Pastor? Does your church even care about lies and deception? Now a hard one… Does your Pastor/Shepherd allow thorns and stickers to grow in the grass the sheep feed on? Will the Shepherd be willing to speak up? Will the sheep be willing to listen? Does anybody really care? The Shepherd may himself, be the Watchman. Or someone he designates, either way, there is one. If not, what is Right and what is wrong? With no Watchman, there is no safety. Watch Christ, and, Be Blessed.
